JNU PhD Admission 2026–27: Eligibility Criteria and Application Guidelines Announced
====================================================================================

  October 16, 2026

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has outlined the admission guidelines for its PhD programmes for the academic session 2026–27. Admissions will be conducted through UGC/CSIR National Eligibility Test (NET), Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), subject to programme-specific eligibility requirements.

**JNU PhD Admission 2026–27: Key Details**

Candidates can apply for PhD admission through the following routes:

- **UGC/CSIR NET:** Candidates qualifying under Categories 1, 2, or 3, in accordance with the UGC Public Notice dated March 27, 2024.
- **Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):** Fellowships awarded through UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT, and NBHM.
- **GATE:** Candidates with a valid GATE score are eligible to apply only for PhD programmes offered by the School of Engineering at JNU.

**Eligibility Criteria**

Applicants must satisfy both the prescribed educational qualifications and the relevant NET/JRF/GATE subject requirements specified by the respective Schools, Centres, or Special Centres in the university's e-Prospectus.

Candidates who meet only the educational qualification requirements without qualifying in the relevant entrance or fellowship examination, or who qualify in the examination without meeting the required educational criteria, will not be eligible for admission.

**Candidates Can Select Up to Three Fields of Study**

Applicants may select a maximum of three fields of study in order of preference while submitting their online application. Once submitted, these preferences cannot be changed.

If a candidate is selected for a programme listed as a higher preference, admission will be offered only to that preference. Selection under a higher-preference field will not entitle the candidate to claim admission under other preferences.

**Online Application Process**

Candidates must submit their applications exclusively through the online mode, providing their UGC/CSIR NET percentile or GATE score, as applicable.

Applicants seeking admission through the JRF category must submit a separate application under that category. However, JRF-qualified candidates may also apply independently under the NET category.

**JNU will not accept offline applications.**

**Important Instructions for Applicants**

Candidates are advised to carefully review the JNU PhD e-Prospectus to verify programme-specific eligibility criteria, relevant examination subjects, and admission requirements before applying.

For official notifications, application updates, and further admission details, candidates should regularly visit the Jawaharlal Nehru University website: https://www.jnu.ac.in.

*Note: Applicants should check the official university website for the application opening date, deadline, and other schedule-related announcements.*
