B.Sc. Perfusion Technology is an undergraduate allied health sciences programme designed to train students in operating heart-lung machines and other specialised life-support equipment used during cardiac surgeries and critical care procedures. The course combines theoretical learning with practical clinical training in human anatomy, physiology, cardiovascular science and perfusion techniques.

Students learn to manage extracorporeal circulation, monitor patients' vital parameters during surgery and assist healthcare teams in maintaining blood circulation and oxygen supply when the heart and lungs require temporary support. The programme also introduces students to advanced life-support technologies, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and ventricular assist devices (VADs).

The course typically spans four years, comprising three years of academic study followed by a one-year clinical internship, although the structure may vary by institution. Graduates can pursue careers in cardiac surgery departments, multispecialty hospitals, cardiothoracic centres and critical care units as perfusion technologists.

Candidates generally require a 10+2 qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, subject to the eligibility and admission requirements of the institution.
