General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) Course Overview
The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course is a diploma-level nursing programme designed to prepare students for careers in nursing and patient care. It focuses on developing the knowledge and practical skills required to provide healthcare services, assist in medical treatments, and support maternal and newborn health.
The programme typically includes 3 years of academic and clinical training, followed by a 6-month internship, making the total duration 3.5 years, subject to applicable regulations. Students gain hands-on experience in nursing procedures, patient assessment, medical-surgical nursing, community health nursing, midwifery, and childcare.
After completing the GNM course and meeting the applicable registration requirements, graduates can explore career opportunities in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, maternity centres, and community healthcare facilities. It also provides a foundation for further nursing education, including Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, subject to eligibility criteria.
